Why I Do This

I have so much respect and admiration for Business Owners - the path you have chosen is certainly not easy. It comes with a tonne of responsibility - to yourself, loved ones and your team.

My vision is to see businesses absolutely smashing it - where owners feel proud, to have time and presence to give to loved ones, to provide an environment for people to feel valued, and for that to radiate throughout their homes and hearts which ultimately builds stronger communities. As a Chartered Accountant, I can read the numbers like a story, understanding what’s working, what’s not, and what needs to change. But I also know that financials are just one part of the bigger picture.

As a Business Owner, I get that the real work happens in those hundreds of decisions made every day. The numbers only reflect the outcome of all that effort.

As a Wellbeing Advocate, I’m a big believer in looking after yourself. The better you feel, the better you lead and more enjoyable life becomes—and that’s a huge part of running a successful business.

My story. Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, and raised on the Gold Coast, Australia, I’ve been fortunate to embrace a mix of cultures and environments that shaped who I am today.

After returning to New Zealand to finish secondary school and reconnect with my Māori heritage, I learned the importance of family, community, and hard work. Coming from a humble, hardworking family, I’ve always had the drive to push myself in everything I do, whether it’s in sport or in business.

Sports played a big role in my life growing up—rugby, surfing and training kept me active, and that energy has carried over into my personal and professional life today. But I didn’t stop at just being active physically; I channelled that same energy into my professional career, especially in the fields of accounting, business advisory, and entrepreneurship.

My career as a Chartered Accountant gave me an insight into the world of business—a world I wasn’t familiar with growing up. I was exposed to a broad range of services from taxation, financial statement preparation, audit, governance, and most importantly, business advisory. Helping SME clients navigate the challenges of their businesses led me to a passion for business strategy, and I realised that my value went beyond just crunching numbers. I saw the potential in every business and business owner to grow, and I wanted to be a part of that journey.

Beyond accounting, my experience spans across financial advisory and entrepreneurship. I’ve managed clients with $29 million in funds, worked with startups to prepare them for investment, and have been involved in launching and investing in businesses of my own - some good and some not so good.

I have had my fair share of tough lessons along the way.. In each role, whether working with high-growth startups or established companies, one thing has been consistent—I am passionate about helping business owners and entrepreneurs succeed.

Along the way and as a result of one of those hard lessons in business that saw me experience my own mental health challenges and obstacles I started a wellbeing business. Personal wellbeing is crucial for entrepreneurs and business owners who often bear the weight of their business on their shoulders. I’ve seen firsthand the importance of looking after yourself so you can show up for your business and the people around you.
